SIIA Showcases Staten Island’s Role in Offshore Wind Development: Insights from ACP and Our Post-ACP Event

The Staten Island Industrial Alliance (SIIA) recently attended the Atlantic Clean Power Conference , where we gained valuable insights on fostering community support for Offshore Wind (OSW) projects, advancing workforce development, and combating misinformation. Sessions covered how OSW can drive positive impacts for communities near infrastructure projects, ensuring local voices are heard and that tangible benefits flow back to the neighborhoods where OSW facilities are based.

An especially exciting area of discussion was the focus on shipbuilding and the specialized OSW vessels currently under development. As New York’s OSW sector grows, shipyards are working on cutting-edge vessels specifically designed for the unique challenges of transporting turbine components and personnel to offshore sites. These state-of-the-art vessels underscore Staten Island’s potential as a key support base, positioning our facilities to provide reliable, safe transportation critical to the success of OSW.

To top off our ACP experience, we were thrilled to bring developers and stakeholders to Staten Island for a Post-ACP meet and greet, thanks to the support of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). This intimate gathering allowed us to showcase Staten Island’s shipbuilding capabilities, extensive mooring and pier facilities, and the readiness of our local industries to serve as a foundation for New York’s OSW ambitions. Attendees saw firsthand how Staten Island’s community and industry leaders are committed to powering the state’s sustainable energy future. Attendees from the Borough President’s office, SIEDC, Arthur Kill Terminal, Sterling equipment, Mayship Repair, Acme Marine were able to network and describe what their organization is looking to contribute to this emerging industry.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to NYCEDC for adding Staten Island to the tour and making this event possible. The Post-ACP meet and greet underscored Staten Island’s unique position in New York’s green energy journey, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable progress and the benefits it can bring to our community. SIIA is proud to continue building partnerships that make Staten Island an essential part of New York’s OSW legacy, with opportunities for local businesses, jobs, and a cleaner future.
